Applications

Magnet systems for demanding operating envelopes.

The same magnet material families are used worldwide in defense, aerospace, energy, mobility and factory automation. The applications below are established uses of the grades and equipment ISIT researches. They describe duty — not a claim of a named programme or customer.

Defense & aerospace

High-reliability magnetics are specified where field must hold through temperature, vibration and long service life. SmCo and Alnico are the usual high-temperature choices; NdFeB is used where mass and energy product dominate and the thermal window allows it.

  • Bias magnets for microwave circulators and isolators in RF and satellite communication chains
  • Sensors, relays, servo motors and actuators in airframe and ground systems
  • Navigational instruments, gauges and fluid-flow meters
  • Radar-array and antenna positioning hardware
  • Door actuators and braking-system magnetics on aircraft platforms

What collaborators typically specify: working temperature, (BH)max, coercivity, coating, dimensional tolerance and a measured hysteresis loop — all of which sit inside ISIT’s magnet and laboratory brief.

Energy & mobility

Permanent-magnet machines dominate compact generators and traction motors because high (BH)max cuts copper and iron mass. NdFeB is the default in wind-generator rotors and EV-class motors; ferrites remain in cost-sensitive drives and power conversion.

  • NdFeB segments for wind-turbine generators
  • Motor magnets for automotive fans
  • BLDC machines at 0.8, 3.0 and 5.0 kW developed on campus
  • Soft-ferrite cores for high-frequency magnetics in converters

Industrial automation

Factories use magnets to lift, locate, couple and sense without mechanical complexity. Electro-permanent systems hold steel without continuous power and release on a pulse — suitable for robotic end-effectors, milling tables, sorting and packing lines.

  • Electro-permanent grippers and lifting heads, 2–50 kg class
  • Magnetic workholding for machining
  • Couplings, bearings and servo-motor magnets
  • Line magnets for sorting and packing
